I certainly had my issues with Stardust Crusaders, but whatever my quibbles with the narrative structure, I can’t deny that no other show featured one of its protagonists desperately trying to outwit a killer baby. Well, except for that one scene in Cross Ange, but let’s not go there. There’s not much to say about this event – I know what I like, and what I like is apparently Kakyoin staring daggers at infants as they plot murder in their crib.
“There’s just something about that baby…” he mutters, absolutely certain this baby is up to no good. How can you trust this baby, Kakyoin? How can you trust any baby, with their shifty eyes and constant, suspicious demands for attention? If it’s you or the baby, can you make that choice? No! No, we must wait for now, wait and bide our time. The others cannot know – they are young and naive, they know not the evil lurking in a baby’s heart.
We’ve all been there, Kakyoin. We’ve all been there.
My favorite parts were either Kakyoin staring at BABY STAND carved into his arm and furiously trying to decipher what it could possibly mean, or the reference to this battle in the final episode where Kakyoin mentions fighting in a dream and nobody else knows what he’s talking about and he’s all just “Oh yeah, you guys forgot. Don’t worry about it.”
Giggled to myself thinking about both of these. “BUT… WHAT COULD THIS…”
When I do eventually start watching JoJo, I want you to know that this was the post that convinced me.
