Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu – Review

So yep, turns out I got to see Kizumonogatari just a little bit ahead of schedule. AND IT WAS SO GOOD. God damn this movie was great. An utter change of pace from what the current television series has become, but a very compelling alternate interpretation of what the series could be. Tekketsu spins a very sparse number of plot events out across vivid, atmospheric minutes, creating a sense of being trapped in Araragi’s head without actually saying a word. It’s a remarkable feat of execution, and I am extremely excited to see the next ones.

  1. Great review, you were very lucky to watch it early 😉 What I want to know is when and how can I watch this long awaited masterpiece….

  2. Just saw it this evening, and I have to hand it to SHAFT/Oishi: they could have played it safe and made something just like the TV anime but with better animation. It would have made everyone happy enough. Instead, they took a risk in order to try to make something distinctive, not only from the series but also from the source material. I’m sure the movie will have a good deal of criticism directed at it from people who were expecting something more familiar. I agree with your review though; I thought it was brilliantly executed.
