Hello folks, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. This week has unsurprisingly been pretty well dominated by my continuing adventures in Silksong, which has been kicking my ass with a regularity I haven’t experienced since I first picked up Demon’s Souls. I do think there are perhaps some sequences that are a touch over-tuned, but on the whole I’m appreciating how its challenges force me to genuinely master its combat system, and hoping to beat the thing before any bosses ahead of me get patched into politeness. Meanwhile, my housemate spent the last two weeks binging the entirety of Black Clover, which actually surprised me with its sturdiness of form and likable cast – it’s not a genuinely great shonen, but it’s certainly much better than the JJK/Demon Slayer generation. With that complete, we’re definitely on the hunt for more background anime – but in the meantime, let’s burn down the week in films!

Summer 2025 – Week 10 in Review
Hello folks, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. Today I am lamenting the death of the summer, and prepping for another eight month New England winter here in the frigid, unforgiving northern reaches. But hey, at least we’ve got Silksong coming on Thursday, which I imagine will be consuming my life altogether for the ensuing weeks. I doubt you need my recommendation, but Hollow Knight really is that good – by far the best Metroidvania game I’ve played, with an inventive world that constantly rewards exploration, delightful art design, and an incredibly responsive, tightly tuned combat system. In contrast with 3D Souls-likes’ increasing reliance on pure reaction time, Hollow Knight consistently rewards spacing, forethought, and genuine mastery; it’s basically the perfect marriage of platforming and Castlevania (or even Smash Bros) combat. You can tell I’m already salivating, but I’ll try to contain myself for the moment, as we burn through another week in films!
Winter 2021 – Week 12 in Review
Oh my god, have we got some shit to wade through. My house began this week in film with an awful mistake, as I actually joined my housemates for a genuine hate-watch. I’ve on the whole stopped seeking out things that I know are going to be bad; there is infinite great media out there, which is all great in a variety of new and enriching ways, whereas bad media tends to be predictable, familiar, and dull. It doesn’t feel fulfilling to flex on something that’s bad; it’s too easy, and generally I’d rather just enjoy something good. Well, I broke that rule this week, and I duly paid the price for it. Fortunately, the rest of this week’s viewing experiences were much more compelling, so let’s just take the medicine first then, as we plow through another Week in Review!
Winter 2021 – Week 9 in Review
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. I’m pleased to report that I’ve had a delightful past week in film, running through an array of productions that were overflowing with all sorts of entertaining monsters. My house held a “monsters then and now” double feature of the original Godzilla and the new Monster Hunter, we chewed through a terrific home invasion film, and we also checked out Shudder’s mean-spirited yet hilarious new horror-comedy. Giant monsters, human monsters, goofy monsters, and monsters you hunt down in order to collect parts to make your big sword even bigger and swordier – perhaps not the most genre-diverse crowd, but an entertaining one nevertheless. Let’s break ‘em all down in the Week in Review!
