Hey everybody, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. I could open with another reflection on the darkness in the world today, leading into a paean to Sun and Moon for its levity in these dark times, but the last time I did that I got completely burned by an absolutely terrific (and heartbreaking) reflection on mortality and grief. 

So I’m not going to do that, and instead I’ll merely acknowledge that I’m happy you’re all reading, and I hope the week is treating you kindly. For all our overwhelming daily concerns, time always keeps passing, one week follows the next, and eventually things are different from how they are now. Some weeks will possess pain and grief as sharp as that last episode, but other weeks will not, and if we keep muddling through, we can learn to embrace the good times, and take heart during the bad. Today I’m watching some Sun and Moon – if you’re feeling up to it, I’d love for you to join me.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. I hope you’re all keeping it together out there, and taking some time to treat yourself and maintain your mental health during this absurdly taxing time. I know that’s a reminder I have to give myself a lot – that I’m not necessarily feeling bad because of anything I did, and that I should learn to cut myself a bit more slack, because we’re all struggling with a uniquely demanding moment in history. It’s completely natural to feel overwhelmed by everything happening – if you try to bear the weight of all of it, all the time, you’re likely to be crushed.

All of this is to basically say that I could really use some Sun and Moon, as it’s turned into one of my own favorite emotional oases, and I can only hope it’s been similarly helpful to all of you. Not all art needs to challenge or devastate us; in a world filled with hardship, we also desperately need beautiful, charming works that help us get through the day, and remind us of our capacity for kindness and joy. Sun and Moon’s firm friendships and adventurous spirit are a steady comfort for me, and I hope you’re cheered up as well as we explore one more episode!

Hello everybody, and welcome the heck back to Wrong Every Time. The summer’s starting to wind down over on my side of the screen, and with the horror show that has been 2020 showing no signs of relenting, I think it’s well past time that we took another Alolan vacation. Sun and Moon’s last episode was actually one of its most technically impressive so far, with Ash’s rematch against Kapu-Kokeko standing as perhaps the most dynamically storyboarded and fluidly animated battle yet. Rather than relying on some of the banked attack animation that Pikachu frequently employs, this fight was all about spacing, speed, and physical contact, lending a tremendous sense of urgency and immediacy to Ash’s toughest fight so far.

Coming out of that battle, I’m expecting this next episode to likely recenter Ash on his Island Pilgrimage quest, springboarding off the renewed focus he exhibited while training. But whether Ash is pursuing fortune and fame or just lounging at the beach, I’m eager to get back Alola, and simply spend more time with this charming cast. Let’s get to it!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. Right now, I’m still mired in what I believe is known as the dog days of summer, where it’s too hot and humid out to even appreciate the sunshine. Meanwhile, with COVID preventing any sort of group outing that might distract from the heat, my current Survival Strategy is to sit within an air-conditioned room, silently staring at the blistering heat outside. This is not a particularly enthralling summer vacation experience, but fortunately, I know a place where the summer heat is always just right – Alola, a special archipelago that just so happens to also house a diverse menagerie of friendly, collectable creatures.

Last time on Sun and Moon, we joined Mallow in her quest for the perfect Alolan soup, a journey that ultimately resulted in Bounsweet evolving into the powerful high-kicking Tsareena, as well as the acquisition of aforementioned perfect soup. After a fair stretch of episodes that have all been episodic adventures, I’m somewhat expecting us to return to Ash’s island pilgrimage today – but if not, I’m also absolutely down for some kind of wacky one-off again, perhaps involving hot air balloons or an angry Miltank. Whatever’s in store, Sun and Moon is always a good time, so let’s dive right into our next episode!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. Today I have just concluded my duties on the summer season’s preview guide, meaning I am treating myself to another fun-filled episode of Pokemon Sun and Moon. I hope you’re all enjoying this journey as much as I am; while I often ramble at exhaustive length about the visual beauty and thematic poignancy of anime’s most ambitious productions, a great deal of anime’s importance to me comes down to how soothing and rewarding it is to settle down with a show as comforting as a good friend or a long, lazy nap.

As someone who watched a great deal of anime growing up, the art form’s fundamental modes of visual and emotional expression feel a bit like home to me. And when you combine that with the artistry and affectionate characterization of a show like Ojamajo Doremi, or Chihayafuru, or Sun and Moon, you end up with productions that aren’t just pleasant to watch, but a genuine source of stability and emotional support. Supporting people through difficult times is one of art’s greatest callings, and I can only hope that joining me on these journeys has given some of you that sense of support, as well. I’m glad you’re all here with me, and eager to get back to the adventure, so let’s dive into another episode of Sun and Moon!

Right now it is technically summer where I am living, which in local terms means the weather outside shifts at random between punishing, stagnant humidity and unrelenting rainy downpours. Even as I sit in my office (aka my bedroom), my air conditioner can do little to protect me from the swampy tension in the air, which clings to my clothes and utterly dishevels my beautiful hair. I am tired of this damnable place, but fortunately, I also know a place where summer works exactly how it’s supposed to – the islands of Alola, which just so happen to also be brimming with adorable pokemon and thrilling adventures-in-waiting. So let’s not waste any more time reflecting on the atmospheric deficiencies of my own climate, and instead take a trip back to some islands that embody the very best of slice of life and children’s animation. Let’s explore another episode of Pokemon Sun and Moon!

Having been extremely good and worked hard enough last week to increase my overall article buffer, today I am treating myself, and you know what that means – we’re heading back to Alola, where the seas are blue and the skies are clear and the pokemon all have adorable mannerisms that make you wanna just squish their little faces. Sun and Moon’s last episode was brimming with just that sort of charming character acting, as we watched Ash and his pokemon engaging in some genuinely grueling training in order to beef Rockruff up for his big fight. And with Rockruff now on his team, Ash might now possess the proper poke power to continue his island pilgrimage, or at the very least solidly trounce Team Rocket. But whether this episode advances the larger narrative or just luxuriates in slice of life reveries, I’m just happy to be back in Alola, and hope you’ll join me for another episode of Sun and Moon. Over in the real world, COVID is still ravaging the globe, protests are raging worldwide in response to my country’s racist, murderous police force, and government officials are calling on the military to cut down citizens with absolute impunity. If these aren’t the end of the days, they are the very least a brutal crucible through which all of us must pass with tremendous hardship, emerging into a future that bears little resemblance to the untenable past.

In light of all that fire and brimstone, I think we could all use a brief trip back to Alola. Staying involved and fighting for a better future is important, but we have to keep our spirits up as well, and recently, very little has given me as much joy as Pokemon Sun and Moon. Both Sun and Moon’s heroes and villains are utterly charming characters, the islands themselves are an inherently relaxing destination, and every episode demonstrates the strengths of this production’s animators in new ways. Last episode was entirely taken up by Lillie learning how to pet a Vulpix named Snowball, and I’d be perfectly happy with an equally fuwa fuwa premise this time as well. Let’s set aside the concerns of the day for just a moment, and enjoy some Pokemon Sun and Moon!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time! Over in the real world, 2020 is continuing to escalate in intensity in every way possible, and I currently exist in a perpetual state of heightened tension, vibrating uncontrollably from the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep. There are meaningful, urgent reasons for me to feel this way, but all of us also need some time to relax and recharge our batteries, if only to return to the work of the moment with renewed strength and energy. In my case, I think the best way to do that is Pokemon Sun and Moon – a show that always helps me feel warm and secure, and through which I can hopefully help some other folks calm down a little, too.

Last episode featured one of Sun and Moon’s comfiest conceits yet, as Ash and Pikachu competed in Alola’s Grand Pancake Race. Watching Pikachu do his best to carry a stack of pancakes healed my heart immensely, and whatever happens this episode, I’m eager to spend more time on this delightful island, sharing adventures with this charming cast. Without further ado, let’s return to the endlessly endearing Pokemon Sun and Moon!
